The forerunner of today's CSA, the DCFA, was founded in 1912 when Tom Robertson, Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Football Association (OFA)—along with Fred Barter, President of the Quebec FA, organized the founding meeting of the DCFA in Toronto in May 1912. This was followed by the first AGM in Winnipeg in July of 1912.

In the years when there was no Annual General Meeting, business was conducted by a mail vote. These were the years of the Great Depression when the DCFA was short of money. The photo below shows delegates at the 1946 AGM.
